Materials and Care

Each product page notes the metal quality of your piece. Below, you’ll find specific care tips for every material.

GOLD & SILVER PLATED JEWELRY
Our plated jewelry is crafted with a fine layer of gold or silver over a brass base. Each piece is finished with premium plating materials and sealed with a protective coating to help maintain its beauty.

Even with these extra steps, plating is not permanent. Over time, it will naturally wear, and the rate of wear depends on many factors—including individual skin pH balance, exposure to moisture, and how often the piece is worn.

For longest wear, jewelry should be the final touch before heading out and the first thing removed when you return. After each wear, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, dry cloth. Please avoid soaps, cleaners, or polishes, as these may strip the plating. If you have sensitivities to brass, keep this in mind when choosing plated designs. Be cautious when purchasing plated items if you have an allergy to brass.

24KT GOLD & FINE SILVER OVERLAY JEWELRY
Our overlay jewelry is crafted by bonding a generous layer of 24kt gold or fine silver onto a high-quality brass base. Using advanced electro-depositing techniques, each piece receives 20–30 mils of precious metal—5 to 7 times thicker than standard plated costume jewelry. This process, originally developed for the electronics industry, creates a harder, more durable finish designed to last longer than traditional plating.

Even though these pieces are made with only precious metals, they still need to be cared for to live their best lives. Avoid wearing your overlay jewelry in water and limit contact with lotions, perfumes, oils, and sweat. These chemicals can dull the surface or cause the finish to wear, altering the color over time.

While this is our highest-quality plating, it’s important to note that wear can still vary depending on individual skin chemistry (pH balance), environment, and daily use. Be cautious when purchasing plated items if you have an allergy to brass. With proper care, these pieces offer the beauty and longevity of fine jewelry at a more accessible price point.

 14KT GOLD FILLED

Gold fill is a much more affordable alternative to Solid Gold. With a layer of solid 14kt gold pressure bonded to a brass base metal, gold-filled pieces can last for many years with proper care. This technique is more durable than gold plating, but to be clear it is not solid gold. Gold filled is generally safe for most sensitive skin types, but can cause a reaction if you are allergic to brass.

Although gold filled is very durable it can fade over time. Usually it can be cleaned by using a soft toothbrush combined with mild dish soap and water. It is still recommended to avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, ocean/pool water or any other harsh products.

 BRONZE

Bronze is a beautiful metal that has been around for thousands of years. It is an affordable metal with a warm, rich color and has a similar look to gold fill.

Our bronze is a high quality Italian alloy of copper and tin that contains an anti-tarnish compound which delays, but does not eliminate, eventual oxidation. Bronze is similar to sterling silver in the way that tarnish can often be removed with a polishing cloth. It is still recommended to avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, ocean/pool water or any other harsh products.

 STERLING SILVER

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Sterling silver needs a little extra love to prevent oxidation and tarnishing. It will naturally oxidize over time, but can often be restored with a polishing cloth or sterling silver cleaner to renew its shine. Avoid wearing it in water and keep it away from lotions, perfumes, oils, and sweat. For best results, make your jewelry the final touch before heading out, and wipe it clean with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. If you have sensitivities to silver, rhodium, or copper, please keep this in mind when choosing sterling silver pieces.

FRESHWATER PEARLS
Freshwater pearls are natural gems grown in lakes, rivers, and ponds, primarily in China. Formed inside freshwater mussels, they are composed mostly of nacre, giving them a rich luster and durability. Available in a variety of shapes and colors—white, pink, peach, and lavender—these pearls offer timeless elegance and versatility at a more accessible price than saltwater pearls. Choosing freshwater pearls means embracing natural beauty, sustainability, and enduring style.

Pearls are sensitive to chemicals, so apply lotions, perfumes, hairsprays, and makeup before putting on your jewelry. After wearing, gently wipe your pearls with a soft, damp cloth to remove body oils, perfumes, or cosmetics. By treating your freshwater pearls with care, you can ensure they remain radiant and elegant, ready to complement your style for years to come.

A NOTE ON JEWELRY WEAR
All of our jewelry is crafted with care and high-quality plating. However, some factors are beyond our control when it comes to how long plating lasts. Things like skin chemistry, lotions, perfumes, and even the environment can affect how quickly a piece may show wear.

Most people can wear our styles regularly and enjoy long-lasting shine, while others may notice their pieces tarnish more quickly. If you know your skin tends to react strongly to plated jewelry, you may want to choose solid gold or gold-filled options for longer wear.

We want you to love your pieces, so please keep this in mind when choosing what’s best for you.
